From Waste to Worksite: WIRRA's Greener Gear Options

Explore how WIRRA is expanding its PPE range to include sustainable options, turning recycled materials into high-quality protective gear while also supporting broader community initiatives.

WIRRA’s Approach to Sustainable PPE

WIRRA’s PPE offering now includes a growing range of sustainable options designed to reduce environmental impact without compromising safety or performance. From gloves made with recycled fibres to eyewear constructed from repurposed plastics, these products give customers the ability to make more conscious choices in the workplace.

A key part of WIRRA’s sustainable product development lies in its use of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET), a material derived from post-consumer plastic water bottles. This choice helps divert waste from landfills and oceans, while reducing the need for virgin plastic and the petroleum-based resources required to produce it.

By reprocessing what would otherwise become microplastics or long-term waste, WIRRA helps shrink the environmental impact associated with PPE manufacturing.

Innovative Gloves Made from Recycled Materials

WIRRA’s Helio 101 General Purpose Nitrile Coated Gloves are a prime example of innovation in sustainable PPE. Certified to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), they’re made with over 50% recycled content. Despite their eco-friendly composition, these gloves maintain the comfort, durability, and performance expected in high-quality hand protection. Suitable for use in wet, dry, or oily conditions, they are also priced competitively with conventional gloves, making the sustainable choice an easy one.

WIRRA’s focus on sustainable product design also includes the CORE glove range, which features gloves certified under the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS). These models incorporate recycled plastic yarns, cut-resistant fibres, and impact-resistant rubber. Through this combination of materials, WIRRA proves that high-spec protection and circular design can work hand in hand.

Sustainable Safety Eyewear: Protecting Eyes and the Environment

This same commitment carries through to WIRRA’s safety eyewear. The Eco-Zero and E-Trammer models are constructed using more than 60% recycled polycarbonate, and yet they still provide medium impact protection, UV380 filtering, anti-fog and anti-scratch lens coatings. These products meet all necessary safety standards while also offering a more sustainable alternative in the PPE space.

While recycled polycarbonate technology continues to evolve, WIRRA is making it accessible. By keeping pricing competitive, they are encouraging businesses and individuals to make greener choices without having to compromise on protection or optical clarity.

Eco-Friendly Packaging Solutions

Sustainability in product development is only part of the equation. WIRRA is also actively addressing the environmental impact of its packaging by transitioning to recycled paper packaging across its entire glove range. This move reduces emissions, lowers energy use, and eliminates unnecessary single-use plastics. Glove paper packaging

WIRRA has even invested in equipment to convert unused cardboard into shock-absorbent void fill, reducing reliance on materials like bubble wrap and improving the circularity of their packaging operations.

This practical shift supports WIRRA’s efforts to offer more sustainable PPE options and shows how manufacturers can adopt environmental improvements in different areas of their operations.

Community Commitment Through Every Sale

WIRRA’s sustainability efforts don’t end with products and packaging. With every purchase, the brand also invests in community wellbeing. 1.5% of every sale is donated to the ACE Fund, supporting mental health initiatives, Indigenous employment programs, cancer awareness, and broader environmental sustainability efforts. By choosing WIRRA’s sustainable PPE options, customers are not only investing in quality protection but also supporting initiatives that create lasting community and environmental impact. This balance of performance and purpose reflects a growing shift toward more responsible product choices in the workplace.
