What is Lockout Tagout?
Lockout Tagout, or LOTO, is a safety procedure that involves isolating an energy source to protect employees from risks caused by power sources during maintenance or repair work.
Lockout refers to a device that is used in conjunction with a safety padlock, which secures the energy source and stops employees from being able to operate the equipment. Tagout refers to an accompanying tag, which informs employees not to use the equipment and provides advice as to how long the equipment will be unavailable.
