Discover how uvex integrates sustainability into PPE design, ensuring safety while minimising environmental impact.
For over two decades, uvex has embedded sustainability into the core of its PPE design and manufacturing. As a vertically integrated brand, every “made in uvex” product is developed and produced in-house, ensuring both quality control and eco-conscious innovation. Since 2014, 100% of uvex's electricity has come from renewable sources, and 97.3% of gas-related CO₂ emissions are offset through green gas, bringing uvex closer to carbon neutrality.
A standout initiative is uvex’s Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) measurement program. The PCF calculates the total greenhouse gas emissions generated by a product throughout its entire lifecycle, factoring in Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. The company has already assessed 118 products and uses this data to improve future designs and meet the EU’s 2050 climate neutrality goal.
Innovative Materials for Hand Protection uvex’s Planet product range is built on strict sustainability benchmarks. Each item must be made with recycled or bio-based materials, be durable, and be designed for recyclability. In hand protection, gloves like the Bamboo TwinFlex® Cut D XG Gloves offer advanced cut resistance while being made from bamboo fibre and recycled polyamide. The Athletic B XP Palm Coated Gloves are constructed from bio-based HPPE and feature a breathable, durable micro-foam coating, which is ideal for varied worksite conditions. uvex focuses on using bio-based and sustainable materials such as cotton, bamboo viscose, HPPE (bio-based), and recycled polyamide in their hand protection products. |
Eco-Friendly Footwear: A Step AheadFoot protection is another category where uvex excels in eco-innovation. Manufactured in Ceva, Italy, using 100% green electricity and solar power, uvex’s footwear range is both durable and low-impact. Most boots now incorporate footbeds made from 87% recycled foam and linings from 100% recycled PET plastic. Two standout models include the X-Flow 65447 Women’s Zip-Up Safety Boot, combining comfort with certified recycled materials, and the 3 X-Flow 6545 Zip-Up Safety Boots, which feature a magnetic zip cover for durability and a recycled footbed. |
Sustainable Packaging Solutionsuvex’s sustainability strategy also extends to packaging. Instruction manuals are printed on FSC-certified paper, and 80% of product wrapping is now kraft paper. Carton tape is even made from potato starch, replacing plastic adhesives. Additionally, uvex has taken a major step in reducing plastic waste by transitioning to recycled paper packaging, helping to combat the millions of tons of plastic pollution worldwide. |
Commitment to Community and BiodiversityAt its Tyringe facility in Sweden, uvex doesn’t stop at sustainable manufacturing. The site operates on 100% renewable power and contributes to local biodiversity by helping restore natural grasslands and planting native flora. |
